Plettenberg Bay
ARCH ROCK LOTUS
Created from thousands of stones gathered by hand on Keurboomsstrand, Plettenberg Bay.The installation took approximately three weeks to complete, each stone carefully placed in dialogue with the landscape.During the build, exceptionally high spring tides swept across the beach, washing away a large section of the work before our eyes.Days later, we returned expecting the ocean to have reclaimed it entirely. Instead, the lotus remained remarkably intact, with only two petals lost. We adapted the design, completed the missing sections, and continued the process.Positioned along the path to the sacred Arch Rock, the installation became a place of quiet reflection for many who encountered it on their journey.Months after its completion, powerful storms reshaped the shoreline, yet the geometry endures in an altered form. Nature has carved a protective moat around the remaining structure, preserving its imprint in the landscape.A beautiful reminder that while land art is inherently ephemeral, traces of our creation with nature can sometimes endure in the most unexpected ways.

Buffelsbaai Whale
Work in Progress...This piece is a beautiful example of the landscape revealing the artwork.On a leisurely walk along the beach, Darren disappeared for a while before returning with a huge smile, excited by what he had discovered.Tucked beneath the cliffs below Wild Side Restaurant in Buffelsbaai lay a long, hidden valley completely filled with stones. After painstakingly collecting and transporting rocks in trolleys and crates for the Arch Rock Lotus at Keurbooms, finding an entire landscape where the materials were already waiting felt extraordinary.It was as though the Earth had prepared its own palette, echoing Michelangelo's idea that the sculpture already exists within the stone.

Protea-Heart Sun
Born from many hands and many hearts, this magnificent Sun Mandala was lovingly sewn as an offering for the Summer Solstice Festival at Well-Being Sanctuary.Honouring the sun at its fullest and most potent, the mandala celebrates the ancient rhythms of Nature — the turning of seasons, the dance of light and shadow, and the elemental forces that sustain all life.With the strength and care of many, it was lifted into the boughs of the tree. From the hilltop overlooking the sanctuary grounds, the curve of the branch revealed itself as the eyelid of a great living eye, embracing the radiant Protea Heart Sun.Woven with the spirit of the South African landscape, this piece became a meeting place between Earth and Sky — a symbol of renewal, resilience and our deep belonging within the living web of Nature.A celebration of the sun.
A blessing for the land.

Darren Waterman
I'm deeply passionate about exploring the relationship between nature, water, consciousness, and the unseen subtle forces that shape our lives.My journey has been guided by a genuine joy for experiencing mother nature, and a desire to innerstand how we can live in greater harmony with ourselves and the Earth.I have a particular curiosity about Earth's Leyline Grid network and how these energetic pathways may relate to the movement and vitality of Gaia's waterways (lifeblood). I'm fascinated by the possibility that by restoring harmony through creative blueprints within these natural systems, we can support healthier water, elevate the vibrational quality of our environment and consciousness, and deepen our relationship with the natural living intelligence of the planet.I believe that nature holds an innate intelligence with the potential to restore, teach, and transform us. Through this work, I hope to inspire others to reconnect with that wisdom, slow down, ask deeper questions, and rediscover the profound connection that exists between humanity and the living universe.To me, Iunearthed represents the continual process of uncovering what has always been within us, a journey of remembrance, and a deeper relationship unfolding through symbiotic creative expression.

I am a multidisciplinary artist exploring the meeting place of art, nature and healing. My creative journey has woven through sculpture, fashion design, contemporary fine art and holistic health, each discipline deepening my fascination with the patterns and intelligence that connect the human body and the natural world.After years immersed in Johannesburg's contemporary art scene, including my time as Curator at MojaModern Contemporary Art Gallery, relocating to the Garden Route transformed my practice. The forests, rivers and coastline have become both my studio and my teachers, drawing me into a more intimate relationship with the living landscape.My recent body of work, Kinetic Kanopi, is a series of flaoting earth sculptures created from natural materials gathered with care from the places that inspire them. I seek to honour nature's beauty, impermanence and quiet intelligence.Guided by curiosity and a lifelong love of learning, my practice is an ongoing exploration of the invisible threads that connect creativity, movement, ecology and consciousness.

I am Ant Freeman and I’m a unconventional artist who’s on a journey of learning through art, and wholeheartedly have to say Art has become my favourite professor and guide.
My creative fundamentals had me constructing within the boundaries of the interior design and architectural world, a vast conglomeration of fixed and rigid shape, form and materials.A Migration to the coast a few years ago captivated my fascination, and instinctively nature inspired lifestyle, with pattern and shapes. Playing on the Dunes and in the Forest I’ve nurtured a divine spark for collecting and gathering and sometimes these orderly actions result in an artistic and poetic formation on the beach and in the sand within the weathering canvases of the ebb and flow of the ocean waves.I’m eternally grateful for Mother Natures heavenly playground and her consistent providing of materials and inspiration and feel her call to provide works of art that convey scale, form and texture with a spiritual whispering message to return her land to a sanctuary and balance once again.
To create is to mimic Mother Nature and to live in balance with her creation and harmonise with her ever inspiring canvases is an artistic lifestyle I am exploring today and infinitely …
